A theft has come to light following the tragic bus accident in Kurla, Mumbai, where a thief was seen stealing gold bangles from the body of a deceased woman, Kannis Ansari, one of the victims of the crash. Ansari, 55, was crushed under a bus operated by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) after it lost control. The incident occurred on December 9, when the bus collided with 22 vehicles, killing seven people and injuring over 40 others. CCTV footage from the scene captured a man removing gold bangles from Ansari’s wrist while other people were present nearby. The police have initiated an investigation into the theft and confirmed that a case will be filed against the unidentified thief.
The bus, which was part of the BEST fleet, was traveling in the Kurla area when it lost control and collided with several vehicles. The collision resulted in widespread chaos, with seven pedestrians killed and 42 others injured, many of whom were rushed to nearby hospitals. The victims included both pedestrians and passengers from other vehicles involved in the crash. Following the incident, emergency responders and police arrived at the scene to manage the situation and assist the injured.
The bus driver, Sanjay More, has been arrested in connection with the crash. He has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder after it was revealed that he had attempted to flee the scene. CCTV footage showed More collecting backpacks from the bus cabin before escaping through a broken window. He was apprehended shortly after and has been remanded in police custody until December 21 as investigations continue into both the accident and his actions.
The police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding both the bus accident and the theft. The theft of the bangles from the deceased woman’s body, which occurred in the midst of the chaos, is being treated as a separate case from the accident itself. Authorities are reviewing all available footage and evidence to identify the thief and ensure that both the accident and theft are properly addressed in legal proceedings.
